Siblings Rebekah and Geoff McCaul (pictured below) had another great reason to have a healthy glass of Alexandrina Pure Jersey Full Cream Milk after it earned one of the five gold medals Alexandrina Cheese picked up at the recent South Australian Dairy Awards.
The Mount Jagged company, which is rapidly gaining national acclaim, also took out five silver medals.
More than 20 dairy manufacturers from around Australia entered the awards, and Alexandrina Cheese was certainly the cream of the crop winning ‘Top Gold’ for the milk, plus James Flat Pepato Cheese in the small scale dairy producer category.
The company also won gold for Encounter Bay Edam (from small scale dairy producer), Encounter Bay Edam (semi-hard/eye cheese), and Alexandrina Vintage Cheddar (small scale dairy producer).
Significantly, the five winning gold medal entries will now go into Australian Grand Dairy Awards early next year, which Alexandrina Cheese won in 2004.
The latest success was the result of remarkable dedication and passion to set higher standards in the industry by third-generation cheesemaker Dan McCaul, and his wife, Krystyna, a second generation cheesemaker.
“At Alexandrina Cheese we are finding that if all elements are consistent it does make the craft of cheesemaking much easier to manage, and we can continue to supply the finest quality dairy
products to the market place,” Dan said.
The success by Alexandrina Cheese is obviously also marvellous recognition for the entire Fleurieu Peninsula food and wine trail.
