Chai concentrate

July 27, 2013 by Coastlines

1 x 395g can sweetened condensed milkscones tea 001

1 teaspoon raw sugar (optional)

1 teaspoon ground cardamom

¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground cloves

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Mix all the ingredients together, place in a glass jar and store in the refrigerator, for up to a month. Ideally let sit for a few hours before using. To use, mix one or two teaspoons of concentrate into your preferred cup of tea, stir well and enjoy. Spice quantities can be adjusted to taste. Other ingredients can be added, such as ground black pepper, ginger, vanilla essence. To eliminate sugar, cream of coconut can be used instead of sweetened condensed milk. Chai concentrate tastes good stirred into porridge. Although Chai means ‘spiced tea’ this concentrate can also be used in coffee. Tip: When brewing black tea, let boiling water sit for a few seconds (allow a bit longer for green tea) – before pouring over tea leaves.
